Fractional Leadership

Senior leadership, inside your business, for as long as you need it.

An experienced NectarGlobal leader joins your leadership team for agreed days, owns agreed outcomes, and builds the capability your people keep. When the work needs hands-on delivery, forward-deployed experts join them.

Fractional means an experienced leader who works with you for agreed days, or full-time for a short period, instead of a permanent hire.

When clients bring us in

You've made an acquisition.

Two businesses, two ways of working, and one set of results to deliver. Someone senior needs to own the integration.

A senior role is open.

A leader has left or the role is new, and the work can't wait months for a permanent hire.

Investors are looking closely.

Preparing for funding, a sale or an IPO means reporting, controls and governance that hold up to scrutiny.

A major programme has no owner.

The budget is committed, but nobody senior is steering it day to day, and risks are building.

You're entering a new market.

Expanding into the Gulf, India, Africa, Europe or beyond is easier with a leader who has already worked there.

You need a function built, not only a person.

Transformation, AI, operations or change capability that stays in your business after the engagement ends.

What you can expect from the first day

Two leadership days a weekMTWTFSS123456789101112131415161718192021222324252627282930
Example: two days a week, planned around your leadership calendar.
  • A named leader.

One experienced person you meet before anything is signed, not a team rotated in and out.

  • Partner oversight.

Every engagement is overseen by one of our managing partners, Ravi Shankar R or Shankar Visveswaran, who stays accountable for it alongside your leader.

  • Agreed time.

Typically one to three days a week, or full-time for a short, agreed period when the moment demands it. Set out in writing.

  • Agreed outcomes.

What they own, how progress is measured, and who they report to, all written down at the start.

  • A place in your leadership team.

They work inside your governance, with your people, under your authority.

  • Regular reviews.

A written view after the first 30 days, then a review every 90 days where you decide to continue, adjust or close.

  • A planned handover.

The aim from the start is capability your own team can carry on.

Client experience

Senior perspective that stays with the business as its priorities evolve.

A new direction for a manufacturing group

An initial six-week assessment grew into six months of senior consultation: AI-enabled design, finance consolidation and strategic options for the group’s boards.

Six months as a manufacturing group's senior advisers

A manufacturing group asked us to assess the business and explore a new vision: where it could improve, where AI and innovation could create an advantage, and how to prepare for its next stage of growth, including a potential IPO. We worked directly with its managing directors, CFO, and IT and operational directors. A six-week assessment became six months of consultation.

  1. See the business as a whole.

The assessment connected the group's ambitions with its financial, operational and technology needs.

For leadership: one shared view for weighing opportunities across functions.

  2. Return to new priorities.

The group came back for advice on AI-enabled design, finance consolidation and other emerging needs, each building on the same context.

For leadership: senior advisers who already understood the business when new questions arose.

  3. Bring options to the board.

We developed strategic options and solution proposals, across ERP, Industry 4.0 and AI, for leadership to evaluate and present to the group's boards.

For leadership: concrete choices to prioritise and adopt where they fit.

Scope of this story: assessment, ongoing consultation and proposals for board consideration. Adoption, implementation and resulting business outcomes are separate stages. No completed transformation or measured operational gains are claimed.

Fractional leadership gives the same continuity of senior perspective, structured around an agreed role, time and responsibilities inside your leadership team.

How an engagement works

Built to hand over

From the first month, your fractional leader works to make themselves less necessary: documenting decisions, developing your people, and hiring or growing the permanent owner of the role where you want one. When the engagement ends, the capability stays with your team.

Forward-deployed experts, when the work needs hands-on delivery

When an outcome needs hands-on work (a process fixed, an ERP module stabilised, an integration or migration step delivered, infrastructure strengthened, or an AI workflow built), forward-deployed experts join your team and work inside your systems, alongside your people, under the direction of your fractional leader. Depending on the work, they are functional, technical or infrastructure consultants, process specialists, or AI and product engineers.

How the work runs

  1. Scope. Your fractional leader agrees one outcome, such as a process fixed, a module stabilised, an integration live or an AI workflow in use, and how success will be measured.
  2. Connect. Experts work inside your environment with your process owners and teams, and the systems involved: SAP, Oracle, JD Edwards, infrastructure, plant and operational data.
  3. Deliver and test. Weekly working reviews. Every change is tested against agreed cases, and every AI output against agreed examples, before it reaches your people.
  4. Go live with controls. Access, audit trail, approval where it matters, and a way to roll back.
  5. Hand over. Your team receives the documentation, the runbook and the knowledge to run and extend it.

What makes our experts different

They know enterprise systems and operations: functional, technical, infrastructure and process specialists who work inside SAP, Oracle, JD Edwards and plant operations, with AI and product engineers when a solution needs building. Every assignment is directed by a fractional leader and overseen by a managing partner, and the aim is capability your team owns, not a dependency on us.

Experts are named and introduced before you commit. Tell us what needs doing

Fractional leadership or a transformation programme: which fits?

Both are NectarGlobal offers, and many clients use both. The right choice depends on what your situation needs now.

Choose fractional leadership when…

  • You need an experienced leader in the seat within weeks
  • The direction isn't settled yet, and someone senior needs to shape it
  • A senior role is open, or you're not yet sure what the permanent role should be
  • You want flexibility: more time in a crunch, less once things are stable
  • Someone needs to own outcomes across finance, operations, technology and people

Choose a transformation programme when…

  • The change is clear and enterprise-wide: platforms, processes and people
  • The scope can be defined and planned from design to go-live
  • You need a full team to deliver: architecture, configuration, data, testing and adoption
  • You want one accountable partner for delivery against an agreed plan
  • The work runs on SAP, Oracle or JD Edwards and must stay dependable through the change

Choose both when the change is large and you want a senior leader on your side throughout. A fractional leader owns the agenda inside your leadership team, and the programme delivers the scope. Forward-deployed experts can join either when a specific piece of work needs hands-on delivery.

Planning a permanent hire? A fractional leader can hold the role in the meantime and help you define and recruit it.

Independent advice, straightforward terms

Independent by design

Your fractional leader works for your business. If they believe you need outside delivery support, from NectarGlobal or anyone else, they will say so openly, disclose any NectarGlobal interest in writing, and leave the decision to your leadership team.

Straightforward terms

A monthly fee based on the days agreed. A short minimum initial term, then month to month with a clear notice period, all agreed in writing before you commit.

Questions clients ask

How is this different from hiring an interim executive?

An interim executive is usually full-time for a fixed period. A fractional leader can work agreed days each month or full-time for a short period, alongside your team, and is backed by our managing partners and wider leadership bench when specialist judgement is needed.

Why choose a fractional leader before a permanent hire?

When you need senior ownership quickly, for a period, or before you're sure what the permanent role should be. A fractional leader can typically start within two to three weeks, works month to month after a short minimum term, and can help you define and hire the permanent role.

How does this relate to your transformation programmes?

They work together. A programme delivers a defined scope with a full team. A fractional leader owns agreed outcomes inside your leadership team, often steering a programme on your side, or shaping one before it starts.

What are forward-deployed experts?

Specialists who work inside a client's business, in its systems and alongside its people, to deliver an agreed outcome with a planned handover. Depending on the work, they are functional, technical or infrastructure consultants, process specialists, or, for AI and product development, forward-deployed engineers.

Do we need both a fractional leader and forward-deployed experts?

Not always. Many clients start with a fractional leader alone. Experts join when there is a defined piece of hands-on work to deliver, and always under the direction of a leader.

Do you provide forward-deployed engineers?

Yes, for AI and product development. Our forward-deployed engineers build and ship AI workflows and product capability inside your systems, as part of a forward-deployed team directed by a fractional leader.

How much does it cost?

A monthly fee based on the days agreed. You'll know the fee, the minimum term and the notice period before you commit.

Who is accountable if something goes wrong?

Your fractional leader, and the managing partner overseeing the engagement, Ravi Shankar R or Shankar Visveswaran. You'll know both names from the start.

What if it isn't the right fit?

You meet the leader before you commit. At any review you can change the scope, ask for a different leader, or close the engagement within the agreed notice period.

Where do you work, and where are your leaders based?

We work with clients in the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, India, Oman, the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Switzerland, Australia, New Zealand, Ethiopia and Uganda. Our fractional leaders are based in these cities: Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Chennai, Bangalore and London and work with clients in person and remotely.
